Just wondering if anyone has discussed taking claratyne while BF with their dr? Today DD started taking penicillin, which I'm allergic to. It's taking two of us to get it into her and it's quite a protracted process, so I'm exposed to the smell for a while and then get it spat up all over me... I've now got itchy eyes and nose and a sore throat. Could be just the start of a cold, but I'd like to take sth just in case. The box says not to without consulting a dr....

I dont think you are meant to, but im not 100% sure. I know you can loratadine/loratabs and you can get them from the pharmacy too.

I took something similar - not Claratyne - I think it was flixonase - earlier this year while BF and it had a terrible affect on DS - he woke up every 1.5 hrs overnight (usually sleeps through)

I definitely wouldn't take anything non-drowsy for that reason. Maybe call healthline?

Try healthline to be certain, we gave DD loratidine directly (Claratyne syrup for kids) from about 7months for her allergies, so it might be ok (although perhaps not in such a little baby?) - obviously you don't want to do it all the time, but as a short-term thing might be ok? It obviously isn't equivalent to the adult dose though, and given your baby is so little, I would definitely get it checked out first! No idea how much is transferred through BM...
