Elective CS following Emerg CS

me again...

DH and I are keen to TTC #2 in January but I *REALLY* don't want a VBAC, we've thought long and hard about this and it is not a decision we have made lightly.

Can anyone give us the ins and outs of arranging this? What is different to normal pre-natal care? Do you have to go to a private OBs? Can the MW/OBs say no to ECS?

I remember my MW saying to me that I'd "probably" need another CS as it was my body that stopped not just the fact that Caitlin was posterior, head on an angle and had the cord wrapped twice around her head! Yep - she REALLY didn't want to come out that way

I have had two c-sections first emergency and second was meant to be elective but ended up being emerg as my waters broke at 24 weeks, then again at 28 weeks and I bleed at 30 weeks and they decided that was it and get her out, I am gonna have no 3 had a m/c in feb and will start trying again this month and will be elective c this time , am using the same midwife so she knows my history and does not have a problem with it. My recovery from no 2 was heaps easier and quicker as I did not labour with her like my son for 12 1/2 hours with and hour of pushing, very stressful experience I certainly would not like to repeat and They found I had a lip in my pelvis so no vaginal births for me. I also had to get up and going as I had a precious wee girl in the neo unit that I wanted to spend time with my only fear at the moment is that I would have another premmie which would be very stressful,so heres hoping, my gp said chances are slim as every pregnancy is new and different.

i have had 2 ceasers 1st one was a emergency and kalem got stuck and his heart beat stoped  and 2nd was a elective as i will never go though what i did with kalem ever again and this one is elective to my midwife was fine about it and i will see a OB from the hosptial at 32 weeks for a date etc and thats all i have to do it was the same with maddy to.

Hi Toni, I think what is usual is that you go with a mw and she refers you - regardless of what your choice might be - to an Ob at around the 26-28 week mark. You go chat to him/her about what you want to do and he/she gives you the pros and cons and statistics on it, and then you make a decision and often that Ob will do the c/s.

I didn't have a second c/s but the Ob I saw was very supportive and I didn't feel pressured into having a VBAC by anyone, it was my own decision. I have a gf who had the same mw as me, she had an Ec/s the second time (after failing to progress, I think #1 got stuck) and had no problems, her second c/s went just as planned.

With the hospital OB did you pay for that service or not?

does anyone know how/where you can get this info?

Wow I feel like I have missed out....but thought I would jump in here anyway.
I had an emergency C/S as I didn't get passed 9cm....blah blah long story.

Anyway I am now in 2 minds, will I elect for a C/S or will I try for a VBAC
I had such a terrible time with the 1st but would really like to try for a VBAC but don't want to end up in the same state. AARGH!

I have a lady from a company I deal with elect for a C/s with her 1st...she just went through her mid wife and met the Dr in the last few weeks. She paid about 3K for electing....not sure if it is the same in every case.

 

Amy it would pay for you to talk things over with your mw next time and she should be able to give you a good idea of whether you are likely to have the same trouble again or it was a oncer.

I am like you amy, would love a VBAC, but don't want the same experience I had with this one so if the ending will be the same I would prefer an elective but how will I know...
